So far, it's working well for me, but this is a BETA!! Try it out, leave feedback, don't expect it to be 100% stable. Please try to replicate any problems before reporting and describe in detail. If you have a hard reboot, attach /proc/last_kmsg.

Install zip from recovery (latest TWRP or CWM)

The Kernel
Although I've had my Xoom for a few months, I haven't followed development here too much. I didn't see any recent source code, so I used dreamcwli's source as a base. Go over to his thread and hit the thanks button: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1997434


Sweep2Wake
Sweep2wake allows you to turn the screen on or off by swiping your finger across the screen. It's the same as hitting the power button. You have to move your finger all the way across the screen for it to work. It should work both horizontally and vertically and doesn't matter which direction you swipe.

Officially Frustrated

Hey guys, sorry to have to post such a pissy post, but I'm hoping something good will come out of this post. Basically I've been trying to Root my Xoom for months now but unfortunately everything I've tried seems not to work. I've even used LAIOT and it still isn't working. The program says that my tablet is rooted, however any Root Checker program I use says it's not Rooted. And also when I try and use Rom Toolbox, or Rom Manager, both of them say that my device is not rooted. And when I type in command prompt the text to check Root statis manually, it says it IS Rooted? Please help!

First things first!! This will not work on a bigPart partition!!





I present to you, PhilZ recovery for the Motorola Xoom

This is unofficial and unsupported by @Phil3759

Those interested for looking at the main development thread, it is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2201860

Please do not pester in that thread regarding this recovery since it is not supported officially

THIS IS CURRENTLY IN BETA

Not working:

- Scrolling
- Background slightly derped
- ...


Working:

- flashing
- backup/restore
- formatting
- everything else...


Touch is working fine except scrolling as mentioned above! You can touch the softkeys, the options in the menu to select which file/option to choose, but if you scroll it will take you back to the home screen, use the softkeys to navigate up and down, that's the only main issue currently

Sorry for some error as english is not my primary language.

This is my first attempt to build a rom from Source.

Built entirely from AOSP code with no Gapps nor any integration with Google, is 100% pure Android.

Just remember as this rom is only compiled from Source without any change whatsoever!!!

-Add MTP support to recovery thanks mostly to bigbiff with a little help from Dees_Troy
-Add command line capabilities - you can now execute various TWRP features via adb instead of the touchscreen
-Add support for color in the console and give error, warning, and highlight lines different colors
-Track backup and restore progress based on file sizes to provide a much more accurate indication of progress
-Improve handling of /misc thanks to mdmower
-Improve setting of time on Qualcomm devices thanks to [NUT]
-Allow using images on slidervalue GUI objects thanks to Tassadar
-Allow using variables and addition and subtraction in variables for easier theming
-Add support for 1440x2560, 280x280, and 320x320 resolutions and update 240x240
-Allow ui.xml file to include additional xml files to help break up the theme and make TWRP easier to maintain
-Other minor fixes and improvements

Over the course of the last year or so, bigbiff has worked to migrate various Java functions from Android's MTP implementation to bring you a fully C++ based MTP implementation that allows you to transfer files to both emulated storage and Micro SD cards. It's confirmed to work on various Nexus devices but we may have to make some changes on other devices to keep Windows happy. Windows is very picky about USB IDs and its drivers. We have tested it on Windows 7 and 8 as well as Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty. MTP is enabled by default, but we do toggle it off and on automatically during certain operations such as if you choose to wipe a storage partition. You can enable or disable MTP under the mount menu in TWRP. For more about what MTP is here.

Note: Due to a weird bug with our MTP setup, you cannot copy a zip file to the root of storage with Windows. You can change the .zip to something else like .txt and then copy it to the root and rename the file back to .zip once it's copied to the device. You can also copy the zip into any subfolder.

Command line support is also now available. You can perform various OpenRecoveryScript commands via the adb shell. Depending on what you are doing you may wish to do a "twrp set tw_mtp_enabled 0" and then reboot to prevent the MTP auto toggle from killing your adb interface. You can use this option to create and restore backups, wipe, install zips, and more. Via adb shell, type twrp followed by a space then enter the OpenRecoveryScript command and hit enter. [Q] Lollipop? Is anyone looking to develop a custom Rom for the Xoom?

I know our Xoom is getting a bit long in the tooth, but it still is one of the finest equipped pieces of hardware out there. I've been using the Omnirom 4.4.4 iteration for many months now, and love it.

How many tablets can you name that have external sdcard,HDMI, and USB capability besides the normative features most tablets have.

I think the Xoom might just might have a very good future with the next iteration of Android, Lollipop. I'd love to be able to
work on this, but if I did it, I'd have to find someone who would loan me a Xoom they have laying around unused for an extended period of time.

I don't know, but the more I think of it the more excited I become.

Install
  • You will need bigPart TWRP and execute the repartitioning as described in

    Prerequisites
    Instructions
    1. Your data will be totally wiped! If you have Nandroids, TitaniumBackups, or anything of any value on your internal storage, copy them to your microsd or computer! They will be gone forever! Your microsd card is the only safe haven on your Xoom during this process.
    2. Put TWRP 2.8.6.0 BigPart version and your desired rom on your microsd card.
    3. Reboot into recovery. Flash TWRP BigPart.
    4. Reboot into recovery. Go into wipe menu. Select "Advanced Wipe". Check
      • Dalvik Cache
      • System
      • Cache
      • Data
      • Internal Storage
      and wipe them. Don't reboot just yet.
    5. Go into install. Recovery should show your microsd storage by default. If not, using the navigation panel, navigate to root then go into "sdcard". You can now follow the steps below, starting with Flash omni-5.1.1-XXX-wingray.zip.

  • If updating from older ROM version in this thread, you don't have to wipe anything
  • If updating from an different ROM, wipe
    • Dalvik Cache
    • System
    • Cache
    • Data
  • Flash omni-5.1.1-XXX-wingray.zip
  • Flash p75xx-gapps-L-5-6-15.zip
  • Flash UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.XX.zip
  • Reboot
  • Wait a long time...
  • Copy SuperSu and Gapps zip to /sdcard/OpenDelta/FlashAfterUpdate so that they are automatically applied after OTA update. (Internal storage/OpenDelta/FlashAfterUpdate)

Tips'N'Tricks
Show Developer and Performance settings
  • Go to the settings menu, and scroll down to "About phone." Tap it.
  • Scroll down to the bottom again, where you see "Build number."
  • Tap it seven (7) times, and *poof*, you've got the developer settings back.

Reduces lagging
  • Overclock to 1.4Ghz (Performance menu)
  • Decrease Window/Transition animation scale and Animator duration scale to Animation off (Developer options menu)
